Duffin, Rausch homer but Bend tips Knights 8-5.
June 8, 2014Joe Duffin (pictured) had a three-run homer, Tim Rausch a solo blast and Grant Melker added three singles for Corvallis in Sunday's loss to the Elks.
Bend (2-1 WCL) erupted for 11 hits to capture the rubber game of each team's initial West Coast League series at Vince Genna Stadium. They scored all their runs between the second and fifth innings to surge ahead 8-2 and they held on from there to take the series 2-1.
After spotting the Elks a 3-0 lead and being retired in order through three innings, the Knights broke through in the fourth when Rausch led off with a homer. One out later, Duffin walked and was balked to second; Kevin Farley's RBI single chased him home to trim the deficit to 3-2.
Bend knocked out Corvallis starter Chris Haddeland with four two-out runs in the fourth and added another run off reliever Sean Eberhardt in the fifth to go up 8-2. The Knights drew within 8-5 in the sixth on Duffin's three-run homer but could get no closer.
The Knights are idle on Monday and Tuesday. They begin the home portion of their WCL schedule at 6:40 p.m. Wednesday against Yakima Valley in the opener of a three-game series at Goss Stadium.
