Knights sting BlueJackets 6-1, take game one of series at Kitsap.

Frosh pitcher Kyle Kraus (pictured) of University of Portland turned in the team's third consecutive quality start to earn his first Knights' win.

The right-hander from West Linn, Oregon kept Kitsap off-balance all night pitching eight innings of six-hit ball allowing only one run while walking none and striking out three.

With the score knotted 1-1 in the top of the fourth, West Coast League Player of the Week Taylor Ard of Mt. Hood CC blasted a towering home run that proved to be the game winner. Ard's homer was the Knights' first of the season.

Corvallis scored first in the second-inning on a sacrifice fly by leftfielder Dylan Jones of Mt. Hood CC. Jones would later deliver a RBI single in the eighth. The soph from Aloha, Oregon went 2-for-3 on the night with 2 RBI.

Kraus was ultra-efficient and his defense played flawlessly.

Mt. Hood's Nick Struck closed the game tossing a scoreless ninth.

University of Washington junior infielder Doug Cherry made his 2009 season debut going 2-for-5 with a two-out RBI double in the Knights' three-run sixth-inning.

Three-year Knight second baseman Josh Hogan of University of Oregon collected two hits as did returnee Richie Jimenez of Riverside CC.

The series resumes Tuesday night at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds. Second-team All-Big West pitcher Dustin Emmons of UC Riverside is the Knights' probable starter.
