Knights whitewash Bells 3-0 to extend winning streak to 7 games.
July 26, 2010Starter Dustin Emmons (pictured) of UC Riverside combined with Eric Young of RCC and Matt Boyd of OSU to shutout Bellingham.
Corvallis scored runs in the third and eighth innings on RBI doubles by Dylan Jones of Oregon State and Michael Blake of Mt. Hood CC, respectively, and shortstop Matt Duffy of Long Beach State went 4-for-5 and delivered a RBI single in the ninth to put the Knights up 3-0.
That was enough for Emmons, Young and Boyd. Dustin tossed six innings to earn the win allowing only four hits while walking four and striking out 4.
Matt Boyd registered a clutch save pitching out of trouble in the 8th as the first two Bells reached base on errors by third baseman Jake Rodriguez and leftfielder Blake while Eric Young was pitching.
Boyd replaced Young and thwarted the uprising retiring Cody Regis of UCLA on a flyout to left and ended the inning on a double play where Boyd struck out Danny Hennings of the Bells and catcher Miles Kizer threw out the Bells' runner trying to steal third.
The Knights collected 11 hits on the game. Second baseman JK Dykes of Washington State went 3-for-5.
With the win, Corvallis extended its winning streak to 7 and improved its WCL record to 24-14. The Knights finished 2-4 vs. Bellingham on the season. The Bells have lost six straight WCL contests.
The Knights travel to Kelowna tomorrow to start a three-game set with the Falcons at Elks Stadium.
Chris Mendoza (2-2, 4.01) of Santa Clara is the probable starter for Corvallis in Tuesday's game.
