BlueJackets sting Knights 5-1, take game one of WCL series at Goss.

Shortstop Matt Duffy (pictured) of Long Beach State went 2-for-5 with a solo home run.

Kitsap scored four runs in the third inning to jump on the Knights early as the BlueJackets took game one of a crucial WCL West series at Goss Stadium 5-1 before a crowd of 837.

The Jackets plated all four runs with two-out hits including the game-winner, a two-run double by WCL Player of the Week Chase Anselment of University of Washington.

Starter Kyle Kraus of University of Portland suffered his first loss of the season. Kraus tossed six innings, allowed five runs and struck out 9.

Reliever Aaron Corwin of Feather River College twirled three innings of scoreless ball to keep the Knights in the game.

Corvallis had several opportunities to pull close, but struggled at the plate with runners in scoring position and made two baserunning errors that thwarted rallies.

The Knights collected 8 hits and left 10 men on base.

Duffy delivered the Knights only run with a solo blast in the fourth inning, his first of the season.

"He fell behind with three off-speed pitches, two and one, so I knew he had to come with the fastball and I was just trying to get something started in the inning. I was just trying not to do too much and get it from under and up; and it worked out I guess," said Duffy.

Junior first baseman Dylan Jones of OSU hit two doubles.

With the loss, Corvallis drops to 14-12 and Kitsap improves to 14-10. The Knights have lost 4 of their last 5 games, including three straight at home.

Game two of the series is scheduled for Saturday night. First pitch is 6:35 pm.
