Melker sets WCL steals mark in 6-5 loss to Medford.

Center fielder Grant Melker (pictured) had two stolen bases to set the West Coast League record (29) on Sunday in a 6-5 loss at Medford.

A senior-to-be at San Diego, Melker also scored twice in the Knights' regular-season finale to finish the summer as the league-leader with 41 runs.

Corvallis is 40-19 overall and 35-19 in the WCL heading into the playoffs. It won 10 of its final 11 series and went 24-9 over that span to pull away from Bend to capture their eighth consecutive division title.

The Knights open a best-of-3 WCL playoff semifinal series at Bend at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday at Vince Genna Stadium. UC Riverside rising sophomore Angel Landazuri (4-0, 2.43) is their projected starter.

Game 2 is set for 6:40 p.m. Wednesday at Goss Stadium; Game 3 (if necessary) will be at 6:40 p.m. Thursday. The best-of-3 WCL Championship Series against either Bellingham or Yakima Valley starts Saturday at a to-be determined site.

The Knights have won 35 or more league games since the 54-game schedule was adopted for the 2011 season. Corvallis has a league-best 141 WCL victories in the past four seasons.

Phil Leopold (Bellarmine) singled, doubled and drove in a run; Logan Ice (Oregon State) singled and had 2 RBIs; and Michael Lucarelli (Portland) had two hits for the Knights on Sunday.

Starter Jake Otness (PLU) allowed one run in four innings and Harrison McGhee (Concordia) added two innings of scoreless relief as the Knights took a 4-1 lead into the seventh. However, the bullpen struggled in the 7th as the Rogues scored five times to take a 6-4 lead they would not relinquish.

Kevin Kline (Dixie State) tied for second in the WCL in homers (8) and was third in RBIs (45), both team records. Dalton Kelly (UC Santa Barbara) tied for sixth in homers (7), was sixth in RBIs (35) and hit a team-leading .336.
