Myrom, Wetzler earn top honors at All-Star Game.

Sean Myrom of the Knights won the Home Run Derby and Knights' pitcher Ben Wetzler was named the Top Prospect by MLB scouts at the West Coast League All-Star Game.

However, the East Division defeated the West 4-2 before an ASG-record crowd of 2,517 at Goss Stadium.

A senior-to-be at Concordia of Portland, Myrom defeated Royce Bollinger (Bend) 2-1 in the final round. Myrom blasted 13 homers overall, including seven in the opening round; Bollinger hit 10.

"It felt really good to win at home," Myrom said. "I could really feel the fans' energy. I didn't want to let them down."

Wetzler, a rising sophomore at Oregon State, threw seven strikes in seven pitches and retired the side in order to earn the Top Prospect Award, voted on by representatives of 24 MLB teams who attended the game.

Elliot Stewart (Walla Walla) hit a 2-run double in the seventh inning to clinch the game for the East. Stewart's hit scored Bo Folkinga (Kelowna) and Pat Valaika (Wenatchee) with runs that loomed large when the West scored once in the ninth on an RBI double by Spencer O'Neil (Cowlitz) to draw within 4-2.

Knights' third baseman Jimmy Allen followed with a single to put the tying runs at the corners. However, East hurler Brett Watson (Walla Walla) induced a grounder up the middle by Mitch Walding (Cowlitz), and East shortstop Valaika started a 6-3 double play to end the game.

A freshman-to-be at Oregon who was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 33rd round this past June, O'Neil was named the Most Valuable player. He homered, doubled, singled and drove in both runs for the West. Bollinger (Bend) also had three hits and Allen had two hits.

The East scored twice in the third on an RBI triple by Alex Stanford (Walla Walla) and Breland Almadova's (Wenatchee) sacrifice fly. O'Neil hit a solo homer in the bottom half and the game stayed 2-1 until Stewart's big hit in the seventh.

No one for the East had more than one hit, but three of their five safeties went for extra bases.

The 2012 All-Star Game is scheduled for Walla Walla.
