Lenahan's homer leads Knights over BlueJackets.

A two-run homer by Cody Lenahan (pictured) gave Corvallis a 3-2 lead in the sixth inning and the Knights held on to defeat Kitsdap 4-3 on Friday to capture their first West Coast League series 2-1.

A rising junior at Portland, Lenahan's blast barely cleared the fence in right-center, and actually bounced back onto the field off the bottom of the scoreboard. Umpire Brent Cunningham immediately signaled home run, and his decision stood after a brief consultation with the other two members of the crew.

It was the first home run of the season for the Knights (5-5 overall, 4-5 WCL), who also won back-to-back games, and a series, for the initital time this season. They moved into a fourth-place tie with Medford in the South Division with the win.

Reliever Andrew Naderer got the win with four sparking innings of relief in his Knights' debut. He retired the first nine BlueJackets (3-6 WCL) he faced in order, and picked the tying run off of second with two outs after Kitsap had scored once in the eighth to draw within 4-3.

Grand Canyon University teammate Jorge Perez finished up for his second save. Perez allowed a two-out single to briefly give Kitsap some hope, but got the final out on a force play at second.

The game lasted just one hour, 56 minutes, before a crowd of 875.

Lenahan hit an even .300 for the Pilots this spring but had been scuffling for the Knights. He started the night at .200, with one extra-base hit and one RBI, but doubled his extra-base total, tripled his RBIs and bumped his average to .241 by going 2-for-4.

"I think the offense is coming around," he said. "Offense is contagious; one hit leads to another and then we'll all start hitting."

Nate Blackham and Grant Melker had the Knights' other RBIs with two-out singles in the eighth and second innings, respectively. Normally an outfielder, Melker had two hits, scored, stole a base and played perfect defense in his first start at second base.

Starter Kyle Treadway gave up two runs and four hits in four innings before being relieved by Naderer. He had one strikeout, and retired eight BlueJackets on ground-ball outs.

The Knights open a three-game home series against Cowlitz at 6:40 p.m. Friday. Cowlitz lost 6-2 at Bend on Friday.
