Nylen drives in three in 7-0 win over Elks.

Skipper Brooke Knight had a long talk with his Knights about offensive approach before Saturday nights game at Bend; Matt Nylen (pictured) and the rest of the team listened.

Hitting .117 entering the game, Nylen had two hits and three RBIs and six different Knights (3-4) doubled as they snapped a two-game losing streak and evened the series with a convincing 7-0 victory. Nylen also threw an Elk (2-3) out at home to end the third inning, when the game was still competitive.

The Knights erupted for a season-high 14 hits before a crowd of 849 at Vince Genna Stadium. Corey Moore and Griffin Boyd had three hits, Grant Fink two. Moore, Boyd and Myrom scored twice and Myrom drove in two runs.

Corvallis had just three hits in a 12-inning loss to the Elks on Friday night, and was hitting a meager .164 in six games, with 13 total runs and six extra-base hits. They almost matched that on Saturday.

"We emphasized staying patient, seeing the pitch, and let the pitcher get you out dont get yourself out," Knight said. "We had 14 hits and six doubles tonight, thats a nice response.

"Chris Johnson had another great start and the bullpen was outstanding. Now weve got to keep it going and win the series on Sunday."

The Knights started early on Saturday as Moore, Myrom and Fink each doubled in the first inning for a 2-0 lead. Myrom and Nylen had RBIs in the third to double that advantage, and Nylens two-run single in the sixth ended the scoring.

A sophomore from the University of Portland, Johnson allowed no runs and five hits in five innings in his second-straight effective start. He struck out four and has not allowed a run in 10 innings in his two outings.

Relievers Kyle Hart, Tyler Duffin and Taylor Hill finished up with four scoreless innings, ending the game in an efficient 2:17.

The series concludes at 5:05 p.m. Sunday. The scheduled starters are Oregon State lefty signee Jace Fry (0-0, 3.86) for the Knights and righty Daniel Chavez (1-1, 3.60) for the Elks.

The Knights are then idle until Thursdays 6:40 p.m. non-league game against the Portland Bucks on a Block 15 Thursday at Goss Stadium. Corvallis opens a three-game WCL series against Bellingham with a 6:05 p.m. Big League Chew & Trading Card/Little League Night doubleheader on Friday.
