Kreuter breaks up no-hitter in ninth; Knights lose 4-2.
July 6, 2015Cole Kreuter's (pictured) single with one out in the ninth inning was the lone hit for Corvallis on Monday night in a 4-2 loss to Medford.
The Knights loaded the bases in the ninth on two errors and a fielder's choice before Kreuter (UC Irvine) blooped an RBI single into right field to make it 4-1. Right fielder Josh George (Cal Poly) then added an RBI groundout to make it 4-2.
The Knights had the tying runs on base with two outs after George was retired, but pinch-hitter Christian Donahue (Oregon State) flew out to end the game.
Medford starter Billy Olson went the first seven innings and Justin Mulvaney added a hitless eighth. Reliever D.J. Wilson allowed the only base hit and two unearned runs in the ninth.
The loss ended the Knights' (14-15 all, 10-15 WCL) six-game overall winning streak and their three-game WCL winning streak. Medford (12-14 WCL) snapped a three-game losing streak.
Corvallis starter Alex Nesbitt allowed two runs and four hits in six innings, with six strikeouts.
The series resumes at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday, and concludes at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday. The Knights open a seven-game homestand by hosting the Kitsap BlueJackets on Thursday.
