Knights tip Victoria 6-5, sweep second consecutive series.

Closer Brandon Choate got the final out for his second save in as many days and Corvallis edged Victoria 6-5 on Monday to sweep the series.

The Knights (31-15 all, 27-15 WCL) scored four times in the seventh to erase a 3-1 deficit, then held on in the ninth for their seventh win in a row. Victoria scored twice and had the tying run at second before Choate got the final out for his fourth save.

The Knights improved to 16-3 in league games in July and remained in first place in the South Division, one game ahead of Bend and 5.5 games ahead of third-place Medford. The top two teams in each division advance to the postseason.

Choate relieved Colin Feldtman with two on and one out in the ninth. He struck out the first batter he faced, but then allowed two base hits as the HarbourCats pulled within 6-5. He then got the final out on a grounder to shortstop Michael Lucarelli, stranding two runners.

Corvallis, which scored three times in ninth in a 4-2 win on Sunday, tallied four unearned runs with two outs in the seventh to win on Monday. A pinch-hit single by Gabe Clark made it 3-2; an infield hit and a walk loaded the bases for Cody Lenahan, who singled in two to send the Knights ahead 4-3. A fifth run crossed on a wild pitch.

Corvallis added what turned out to be a key insurance insurance run in the ninth on a single by Gus Craig, a sacrifice and Peter Van Gansen's two-out single. All six Corvallis runs scored with two outs.

Corvallis scored its first run in the second inning on Chris Rabago's sacrifice fly. Starter Andrew Naderer protected that margin until the HarbourCats broke through for two in the fifth and another run in the sixth.

The Knights open a three-game series in Kelowna on Tuesday night. Their next home game is a Saturday against Kelowna on the second Kids $1,000 Dash for Cash Night of the summer.
