Kelowna snaps the Knights six-game win streak.
July 12, 2007Corvallis dropped its series finale 4-1 at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field. Knights pitching gave up its first homer of the season. Unfortunately, it was a game-winner. Pinch-hitter Ryan Mantle of Missouri State crushed a three-run homerun with two outs in the 8th off lefty reliever Danny Bibona of UC Irvine to break a 1-1 tie.
"The pitch he hit was a good pitch, he just hit it hard," said Bibona.
The loss broke a six-game Knights win streak and made a winner of WCCBL All-Star southpaw Matt Sokolowski of Butler. Sokolowski tossed a complete game and only allowed a first-inning run and four singles.
"He (Sokolowski) was effective because he kept you guessing," said Knights shortstop Josh Hogan of Mt. Hood CC. "You just didn't know what was coming."
Corvallis was without starting centerfielder Braden Wells as he didn't start for a second straight night due to a nagging back injury.
Clayton Shaw (pictured) of University of Portland made several nice plays at third including a web gem that brought the Goss crowd to its feet.
Corvallis hosts two-time WCCBL champion Wenatchee on Friday night. Game time is 7:05 pm.
