Myrom's HR, Corvallis triple play leads Knights to win before Goss crowd of 1,265.

First baseman Sean Myrom (pictured) blasted the Knights' first home run of the season to spark a 5-1 nonleague victory.

Myrom's shot hit the top of the taller portion of the left-field fence and bounced over for a two-run homer that sent the Knights in front 2-1 in the fourth inning, thrilling a season-high crowd of 1,265.

They added two more runs in that rally. Six relievers held the Bucks scoreless over the final seven innings, and the Knights turned a 6-4-3-2 triple play to end a budding WCL Portland Bucks comeback in the eighth inning.

Five of Myroms eight hits entering the game were doubles and he thought he had a sixth when he drove R.J. Hoffmans pitch well over the head of left-fielder Kramer Lindell with no outs in the fourth.

"I was out in front of the pitch and I thought it was going to hit off the wall," Myrom said. "Then I heard the crowd and I knew it was a home run."

Third baseman Jimmy Allen, in his first game with the Knights, added an RBI single and subsequently scored after two wild pitches to complete the four-run outburst. Designated hitter David Armendariz, a teammate of Allen's at Cal Poly who also made his Knights' debut on Thursday, knocked in the final run with a fifth-inning single.

Myrom, Armendariz, returnee David Andriese and Matt Nylen all had two hits for the Knights. Andriese also scored twice.

Starter Tom Zarosinski, an Oregon State redshirt seeing game action for the first time since last summer, went the first two innings.

Relievers Tyler Duffin, who was credited with the win, and Chase Johnson, Matt Pechmann, Justin Hepner, Chris Mendoza and Kyle McNutt went an inning apiece.

Mendoza was the beneficiary of the triple play, believed to be the first in the Knights' 21-year history.

The Bucks had runners at the corners with no outs in the eighth when Jordan Harlow hit a onehop soft liner to shortstop Alex Foulon. He tossed to second baseman Griffin Boyd for the first out, and Boyds relay to Myrom retired Harlow at first for the second out.

Ryan Degner, the runner at third, broke late for home and was tagged out by Hepner, who had moved to catcher, after a relay from Myrom.

The Knights open a three-game West Coast League home series against Bellingham at 6:05 tonight. Right-hander Adam Duke of Oregon State and lefty Dylan Stuart of UC Riverside will make their Knights debut as their starting pitchers.

It's Big League Chew and Trading Card Night and Little League Night. Local Little League baseball and softball teams will be recognized between games.
