Knights start road trip with 6-2 victory at Walla Walla.

Reliever Gary Steindorf of Western Oregon (pictured) stymied the Sweets tossing 5 scoreless innings to earn the win.

Steindorf was pressed into duty early on Saturday night after Knights' ace Slater Lee of Cal Poly was likely lost for the season after suffering a knee injury after pitching two innings.

Steindorf started the third and proceeded to throw five shutout innings. The senior-to-be from Portland, Oregon only allowed three hits while walking two and striking out 4.

Corvallis broke a 2-2 tie in the fifth when Cal Poly outfielder Josh George scored from third on a wild pitch. George started the inning with a single. He advanced to second on a single by future OSU Beaver Nick Madrigal and both runners advanced on a sac bunt by Jes Staples of Bellarmine.

George went 2-for-2 with a RBI, and Staples and Madrigal also both collected two hits.

UC Irvine teammates designated hitter Cole Kreuter and right fielder Cameron Bishop recorded two hits as well, with Kreuter registering a RBI in the second inning.

The Knights opened things up in the 7th on Madrigal's RBI and a two-out two-run single by shortstop Clay Fisher of UC Santa Barbara.

Knights' veterans Alex Nesbitt of Washington and Jorge Perez of Grand Canyon finished things up for Corvallis with Nesbitt throwing a perfect 8th and Perez a perfect ninth.

Corvallis improved its WCL mark to 26-20 and the Knights remain 1.5 games ahead of Yakima Valley as the Pippins also won tonight beating Cowlitz 7-2.

Over the past two weeks, the Knights have now lost three of their top pitchers in WCL All-Stars Ryan Walker of Washington State and Slater Lee; and rising sophomore Dakody Clemmer of Central Arizona College. Walker and Clemmer reached innings limits.

Corvallis will try to win its ninth WCL series of the summer tomorrow at Borleske Stadium. You can catch all the action on KEJO 1240 AM. The voice of the Knights, Mike Parker, calls the play-by-play. Start time is 5:05 pm.

UC Santa Barbara frosh Chris Clements is the Knights' probable starter.
