Farris, Soto slam Rogues 10-5 to capture series.
July 8, 2015Michael Farris (pictured) blasted a grand slam to lead Corvallis to a 10-5 victory over Medford on Wednesday night to give the Knights two wins on the day.
Corvallis (16-15 all, 12-15 WCL) also prevailed 7-1 in the completion of a game originally suspended on Tuesday night by inclement weather. The sweep moved the Knights into a second-place tie with the Rogues (12-15 WCL) in the South Division.
Corvallis has now won 8 of 9 overall and 5 of 6 in West Coast League play. They now have won consecutive WCL series for the first time this season; they swept Victoria this past weekend.
A rising junior at UC Riverside, Farris hit his bomb in the fourth inning of the regularly-scheduled contest to put the Knights on top 7-1. It was his second homer of the summer.
Jackson Soto (Oregon State) tripled twice, singled and drove in two; Michael McAdoo Jr. (UC Santa Barbara) tripled, singled twice and had an RBI; Christian Donahue (Oregon State) doubled, singled and drove in a run and Clay Fisher (UC Santa Barbara) singled twice and had an RBI to lead a 12-hit attack.
Starter Ryan Walker (Washington State) retired 12 consecutive Rogues at one points and pitched into the sixth to even his record at 2-2. He struck out five and allowed four runs on four hits. Western Oregon's Gary Steindorf (2.2) and Western Nevada's Chase Kaplan (1) finished with 3.2 innings of one-run relief.
The Knights open a seven-game homestand by hosting the Kitsap BlueJackets on Thursday. Dakody Clemmer (1-1, 4.82) of Central Arizona JC will start for the Knights, opposed by Nate Simmons (1-1, 1.84) of St. Mary�s in a battle of right-handers.
