Corvallis shuts out Pirates 4-0 at Moses Lake to take WCL series.

Kyle Kraus (pictured) of UP and Nick Hoover of UC Irvine tossed a combined shutout.

In another sloppy game at Larson Playfield, the Knights rode the arm of ace Kyle Kraus of University of Portland to earn a series win. Kraus pitched 8 innings, allowed 7 hits and struck out 6 while walking none.

Nick Hoover of UCI closed out the game striking out two.

For consecutive nights, Corvallis made three errors.

First baseman Danny Hayes delivered the game-winner for a second straight contest as the left-handed hitter from Oregon State drove in Dylan Jones with a RBI groundout in the first inning.

Corvallis scored a second run in the first on a two-out Moses Lake error at third base allowing Mitch Haniger to score from third.

The Knights had several opportunities to blow the game open early, but the Pirates hung tough.

Corvallis scored in the third inning on a bases loaded walk to Knights' shortstop Justin Viele of Santa Clara.

In the eighth, the Knights added a fourth run on a clutch two-out RBI triple by Dylan Jones of OSU.

Corvallis native Thomas McCarthy of Feather River College led the offense going 2-for-4 with a double and run scored.

With the victory, Corvallis improves to 6-7 in the WCL and 9-7 overall, and earned its second consecutive WCL road series win.

The Knights head home tonight and return to WCL action on Saturday, June 26 vs. Kelowna at Goss Stadium.

You can catch the Knights this summer on KEJO 1240 AM. Mike Parker and Jason Schwartz call all the action.
