Taylor drives home winner in victory over Bellingham.

Shortstop Adam Taylor's (pictured) RBI double in the seventh inning scored the winning run for the Knights in a 3-2 victory at Bellingham on Tuesday night.

A 10-day signee from Concordia, Taylor dumped his two-out hit into the opposite field to score pinch-runner Matt Kelly (Portland) with the decisive tally. Andrew Reichenbach (George Fox) had doubled to open the inning before being replaced by Kelly.

Closer Chase Kaplan (Western Nevada) kept the Bells (1-3 WCL) off the board in the ninth to earn his second save. The win snapped a two-game losing streak for Corvallis (3-2 all, 2-2 WCL), which was shut out in Bend in its previous two games.

The Knights trailed 2-0 after one inning but got single runs in the second and third frames to draw even. Caleb Smith's (Linn-Benton) bases-loaded walk scored the first run and Taylor Travess (Mt. Hood) knotted the score in the third with the Knights' first homer of the season, a liner over the right-field fence.

Corvallis starter Ryley Widell (Washington State) gave up two runs and three hits in five innings and got a no-decision. He struck out seven and retired 13 of the final 14 Bells he faced. Reliever Cameron Richman (Portland) added three shutout innings as the bridge to Kaplan; he allowed two hits, had one strikeout, and got the win.

Reichenbach and Taylor had two hits each. The Knights had three extra-base hits after having just one in their season-opening series at Bend, when they scored only two runs in 27 innings.

The series resumes at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday. San Francisco's Grant Goodman (0-0, 0.00) is the scheduled starter for the Knights, opposed by Keenan Lum of Northern Colorado in a matchup of right-handers. The finale is set for 7:05 p.m. Thursday; Jacob Wong of Grand Canyon is the projected starter for Corvallis, opposed by Payton Mackin of Shoreline CC.

The Knights then head to Wenatchee for three weekend games to conclude a streak of nine road games to start the season. Their home opener is June 14 against Kelowna, the 2015 WCL runner-up.
