In battle of East and West WCCBL leaders, Knights beat Pirates 3-1.

Corvallis opened its 9-game WCCBL Eastern Washington road swing with a 3-1 victory over the Moses Lake Pirates at Larson Field. Knights pitching continues to carry the club as Brad Reid of Bellevue CC and Kevin Castner of Cal Poly SLO (pictured) held East Division leading Moses Lake to one run. Reid scattered 9 hits over 6 innings and only gave up one run to earn the win. Castner stuffed Moses Lake over the final 3 innings to register his first save. The hard throwing right-hander pitched three scoreless innings and struckout 5 Pirates.

The Knights scored in the first on a Kyle Cruikshank fielder's choice ground out that plated Brett Casey of Oregon State. Casey led off the game with a single, stole second and advanced to third on Matt Wyckoff's single. Wyckoff collected three hits on the night to improve his league batting average to .417 (4th best in the WCCBL). Casey added two hits and first baseman Jordan Post of Pacific Lutheran came up big with a two-out RBI single in the sixth.

Knights starting first baseman Mark Samuelson of University of California, Riverside did not make the trip. Samuelson was sent home this morning as the redshirt frosh slugger must take a full load of summer school.

Newcomer sophomore outfielder Ryan Lewis of Yakima Valley CC delivered a pinch-hit RBI single in his Knights debut plating an insurance run in the eighth. Lewis was picked in the 45th round of the 2007 MLB draft by the Chicago Cubs. He was signed yesterday to help with depth in the outfield as the club recently lost outfielders Steven Sultzbaugh and Austin Pearce. Lewis is auditioning for a spot. He also stole a base to make an excellent first impression.

The Knights took game one of the series between the two division leaders before a crowd of 650. This is the first of 9 road games in 8 days vs. Eastern Washington clubs. The Knights finish the road trip at Wenatchee and Spokane.

990 AM The Legend is not broadcasting the Moses Lake series, but will resume its broadcasts as KTHH picks up the feed of the AppleSox flagship station KPQ for the Wenatchee series starting June 25.
