Donahue's homer, three RBIs lead Knights' 10-1 win.
July 12, 2015Christian Donahue (pictured) homered, singled, scored twice, stole a base and drove in three runs on Sunday in a 10-1 win over the Willamette Valley Brewers.
Donahue (Oregon State), who played shortstop Sunday evening, drilled a two-run homer just inside the right-field foul pole in the second inning, collected 7 assists and added a sacrifice fly in the sixth as the Knights collected 14 hits off of three Brewers pitchers.
Josh George (Cal Poly) added three hits, two RBIs, two steals and three runs as the Knights won their sixth straight game and their 12th in their last 13 starts. Cameron Bishop (UC Irvine) and Michael McAdoo Jr. (UC Santa Barbara) each doubled, singled, scored and drove in a run and Jackson Soto (Oregon State) had two hits and an RBI.
Austin Kelly (Linn-Benton) pitched five two-hit innings and got the win. Cole Doherty (Portland), Caleb Henry (Corban), Chase Kaplan (Western Nevada) and Michael Martin (UC Irvine) each added a scoreless inning of relief.
Willamette Valley plays in the Oregon Collegiate Baseball League and is Linn-Benton's summer team. Crescent Valley graduates Mike Takamori, Caleb Smith and Cory Conklin and Corvallis High grad Henry Rondeau started for the Brewers.
Sunday's crowd of 1,306 increased the season attendance to 28,975 in 20 dates. The Knights are 4,203 fans ahead of 2014 through a corresponding number of openings.
The Knights resume West Coast League play on Monday with the opener of a three-game series against Klamath Falls at Goss Stadium. Alex Nesbitt (1-2, 2.50) of Washington is the scheduled starter for the Knights, opposed by Utah righty Spencer Johnson (1-3, 8.27).
