Knights hit record five homers, rout Klamath Falls 18-3.
July 4, 2014Designated hitter Kevin Farley homered and drove in four runs on Friday night to lead Corvallis to its fifth straight victory, 18-3 over the Gems.
The Knights (18-10 all, 16-10 WCL) provided the July 4th fireworks as they blasted a team-record five homers. They also won the series, as they prevailed 7-6 in 13 innings on Thursday night, and they remained in first place in the South Division of the West Coast League by one game over Bend.
A rising junior at Portland, Farley walked with the bases loaded in the first inning for his first RBI and then slammed his first homer of the summer, a three-run shot well over the left-field fence, in the fourth inning to send the Knights ahead 10-0.
Portland teammate Michael Lucarelli homered and doubled and Dalton Kelly, Tim Rausch and Phil Leopold added round-trippers for the Knights. They scored at least two runs in each of the first seven innings and supported winning pitcher Jackson Lockwood with a 13-hit offensive barrage.
Lockwood, the Knights' third Pilot, went six innings, struck out eight and allowed five hits and one earned run to win his team-high fifth game of the year. He has allowed just two earned runs over 17 combined innings in his last three starts, all wins. Stephen White finished up for his first save.
Klamath Falls (7-15) starter Michael Silva walked seven and hit a batter in 1.2 innings. The Knights scored five runs on only one hit in their first two at-bats and never looked back.
The series concludes at 6:35 p.m. Saturday. Harrison McGhee (0-2, 4:30) of Concordia is the projected starter for the Knights, opposed by Tanner Irwin (2-1, 5.12) of Fresno Pacific.
The Knights are idle on Sunday and begin a three-game set with South Division rival Medford at Goss Stadium at 6:40 p.m. Monday.
