Knights take series at Bellingham, beat Bells 7-5. Corvallis has won 12 of its last 13 games.

Dean Green (pictured) of Oklahoma State blasted a two-run homerun. The frosh from Tulsa put the Knights ahead 2-0 in the second with his first dinger of the summer. Corvallis would score 3 more in the third thanks to a team leading 17th RBI by Billy Clontz of Mt. Hood CC (a RBI single to right), a bunt RBI single by Davis Duren of Oklahoma State and a wild pitch that plated the final run of the inning.

The Knights scored their final two runs in the fifth on a two-out, two-RBI single by senior-to be outfielder John Wallace of Oregon State.

Up 7-1, Corvallis held on to win 7-5 and earn its 12th victory in its last 13 games.

With the win, the Knights improved their overall mark to 20-8 and WCCBL record to 19-7. Corvallis also won its fifth consecutive WCCBL series. The win also guarantees the Knights will go home with a winning record on its second extended road trip.

Starter James McLaughlin of San Diego State picked up the victory to improve his won/loss record to 3-2. The senior-to be pitched five solid innings only allowing one run, a third-inning homer to Scott Hardinger of Cornell, while walking three and striking out 5.

The bullpen had a rare poor performance as the Bells scored 4 late runs to cut into a 7-1 deficit and had the tying run at the plate in the ninth before Geoff Nichols, a junior-to be at University of Oregon, got University of Washington star quarterback Jake Locker to pop out to first to end the game. Nichols earned his first save of the season.

Frosh shortstop Richie Jimenez of Riverside CC stayed hot at the plate going 2 for 4 Saturday night. Richie is 7 for 15 on the trip.

Corvallis goes for the sweep on Sunday. Game time is 4 pm.
