Corvallis sweeps Elks, Knights beat Bend 4-1 to close regular season with WCL record 38 wins.

Eddie Orozco (pictured) of UCR pitched six solid innings to earn the road win.

Orozco of UC Riverside, Bryan Dalton of Columbia Basin College and Eric Young of Riverside CC combined to hold the Elks to three hits and one run before a vocal Bend crowd of 1,653.

Dalton turned in his best performance of the summer retiring all six Bend batters he faced.

And Young recorded his first save of the season by setting the Elks down in order in the ninth.

Corvallis scored two in the second to take a 2-1 lead. DJ Gentile of Cal Poly tied the game with a two-out home run to left and catcher Andrew Susac gave the Knights the lead by belting a RBI double to centerfield.

The Knights would tack on two more runs in the fourth as Billy Clontz of Western Oregon knocked in a run with a one-out fielder's choice RBI ground out and then Richie Jimenez of Riverside followed Clontz with a run scoring single to center.

With the win, Corvallis swept its final WCL series and improved its overall record to 47-10. The Knights finished the WCL season 38-10 and 13 games ahead of Bend.

38 wins is a new league record breaking the Knights 31-win mark of 2008.

Corvallis went 9-3 vs. all its division foes and went 11-1 vs. the WCL East with its only loss at East champion Wenatchee.

The Knights and Elks play again Tuesday in Bend in game one of the best-of-three WCL West Divisional Series.

Game two is Wednesday, August 12th at Goss Stadium in Corvallis. It's BI-MART 2 for 1 Night and $1 Hot Dog Night.
