Kitsap rallies for 5-3 win in Game 1 of doubleheader.
July 24, 2014Grant Melker (pictured) had another 3-hit game but Corvallis fell 5-3 at Kitsap on Thursday in Game 1 of a doubleheader.
It was the third consecutive 3-hit game for Melker, a rising senior center fielder at San Diego. He is 9-for-14 (.643) in that span and has raised his average from .274 to .313.
The Knights took a 3-0 lead in the first inning of the opener on a two-run double by Dalton Kelly (UC Santa Barbara) and a sacrifice fly by Jackson Soto (West Albany HS/Oregon State). But Kitsap rocked starter Chris Haddeland (Linfield) for four runs in the third to surge ahead 4-3 and it added an insurance run in the sixth.
Kelly, Dane Lund (Oregon State) and Joe Duffin (Cypress) doubled for the Knights. who stranded seven runners, most in scoring position.
