Knights lose 7-6 heartbreaker to AppleSox.

Blake Burrell (pictured) pitched impressively in relief but Wenatchee scored three runs with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to edge Corvallis.

The Knights (4-2 WCL, 4-2 overall) led 6-4 and appeared ready to win their third straight game after Burrell struck out the first two batters in the bottom of the ninth. However, the next two batters walked and Mitchell Gunsolus doubled to drive in one run and put runners at second and third.

Both then scored when Jordan Osborn beat out a slow roller to second base on a full count.

A freshman from Riverside City College, Burrell joined the Knights on their way to Wenatchee on Friday morning. He struck out seven in relief of starter Aaron Corwin and appeared ready to earn the victory before the improbable rally.

Matt Nylen of Western Oregon had three hits and two RBIs and Caleb Whalen of Portland and Stanford signee Austin Barr had two hits and two RBIs apiece for the Knights.

The series resumes at 7 p.m. Saturday. The projected starters are Jorge Perez (1-0, 1.80) for the Knights and Derek Callahan (0-0, 1.80) for the AppleSox. The series concludes at 6 p.m. Sunday.
