Corvallis beats Moses Lake 4-1 to take series opener.
July 22, 2010Starter Aaron Corwin (pictured), a sophomore-to-be at Texas Tech, tossed six solid innings to earn the win.
Corwin allowed only 4 hits and one run while striking out 6 in the frosh's best performance of the summer.
Pitchers Dustin Emmons of UC Riverside, Ross Pomerantz of Occidental College and Dylan Jones of OSU all pitched one scoreless inning of relief with Jones registering his first save of the summer.
Second baseman JK Dykes of Washington State led the offense going 3-for-5 with 2 runs scored.
"I felt good. I was battling a shoulder injury all week and today it felt the best so I was going out and trying to get some pitches to hit and luckily I got that," said Dykes.
"Our pitching has been lights out, so I think as long as our pitching stays where we're at we're going to keep getting wins and hopefully get one tomorrow.
"We're in good position right now for playoffs. From here on out we're going to just have to keep winning each series. We just have to focus on one game at a time and the rest will take care of itself."
Designated hitter Michael Blake of Mt. Hood CC went 2-for-3 with a double and RBI, and raised his team-leading batting average to .386.
Centerfielder Mitch Haniger of Cal Poly went 2-for-3.
Tonight's attendance was 863.
With the win, Corvallis improved to 21-14 in the WCL and extended its winning streak to 4 games.
Game two of the series is slated for Friday night at Goss Stadium. Game time is 6:35 pm.
