Kline hits third grand slam in defeat at Victoria.
July 27, 2014Third baseman Kevin Kline (pictured) hit his third grand slam of the summer and drove in five runs in a 19-10 loss on Sunday.
Mired in a lengthy slump, the senior-to-be at Dixie State added an RBI single for his first multi-hit league game since July 7. He was 2-for-30 in his last eight league games before Sunday.
Shortstop Michael Lucarelli (Portland) added a double and a single.
Victoria scored 10 runs in the seventh inning and added five more in the eighth to erase a 5-4 lead and salvage the series finale.
The HarbourCats (19-23) parlayed three doubles, six singles and a key error into the 10-run seventh against Corvallis relievers Jason Snodgrass (Concordia) and Jake Otness (Pacific Lutheran). Snodgrass started the inning with a 5-4 lead but that was erased after only three batters.
Corvallis scored four times in the fifth to take a 5-3 lead, but the bullpen could not hold it, snapping their three-game winning streak. Victoria battered seven Knights pitchers for 21 hits, seven of which went for extra bases.
The Knights (31-15 all, 27-15 WCL) still won 4 of 6 games on their final long road trip of the summer. They also took 2 of 3 at Kitsap earlier in the week.
Corvallis is idle on Monday. It starts a key South Division series against Bend at 6:40 p.m. Tuesday at Goss Stadium.
