Kelowna salvages series finale by shutting out Corvallis 5-0 on three hits.
July 20, 2007Clayton Shaw (pictured) of UP collected one of three Knights hits vs. the Falcons on Saturday night at Elks Stadium. Corvallis was blanked by southpaw James Paxton of University of Kentucky for seven innings. Chris Lopez of UC Irvine finished the last two frames for the combined shutout.
Shaw broke up Paxton's no-hitter in the sixth.
Jordan Post of PLU singled in the ninth for the only other Knights' hit to make it to the outfield. Second baseman Brett Casey of OSU recorded an infield hit in the seventh.
Kelowna pitchers whiffed 12 Knights' batters. Counting the ninth-inning during Saturday night's resumed suspended game, which the Knights captured 1-0, Corvallis was held scoreless for 10 innings and struckout 15 times.
Knights' pitchers walked 8 Falcons including the leadoff batter in four innings.
Corvallis's league leading defense struggled on Saturday night allowing three unearned runs and making two key errors and a run-scoring passed ball.
Corvallis drops to 27-13 overall and 19-11 in league.
The Knights head to Bellingham Sunday morning for a Sunday evening contest with the Bells starting at 5 pm.
