Corvallis takes opener at Kelowna, 5-1.Hazahel Quijada of UC Riverside (pictured) tossed six shutout innings to earn the win at Elks Stadium.

Corvallis struck for 3 runs in the 4th, and Hazahel Quijada stymied Kelowna over six innings allowing only three hits and walking one while striking out 7.

The Knights fourth-inning started with a lead-off single by Steven Kwan of OSU and was followed by singles by Emilio Alcantar (Lewis-Clark State) and Andy Atwood (OSU). Atwood's plated the game's first run. First baseman Roman Garcia knocked in the second and third runs of the inning with a one-out two-run single.

Senior-to-be Michael Farris of UC Riverside delivered a two-run double in the eighth to bump the Knights lead to 5-1.

Corvallis played errorless ball and relievers Cameron Richman (Portland), Chase Kaplan (Western Nevada) and Tanner Howell (Dixie State) each pitched an inning to hold the Knights lead.

The Knights and Falcons play game two of the series tomorrow at Elks Stadium. Cameron Bishop is the probable starter for Corvallis. You can listen to the game on KEJO 1240 AM. First pitch is 6:35 pm.
