Knights fall 1-0 on first-inning homer.

Starter Jorge Perez (1-1) of Grand Canyon University was the tough-luck loser for Corvallis in a 1-0 setback at Wenatchee. He gave up just the one run and seven hits in six innings, with two strikeouts.

The Knights (4-3, 4-3 WCL) were held to three hits and just two baserunners advanced past second. Nate Blackham was stranded at third in the sixth inning and Caylen Clardy was thrown out at third to end the eighth after rounding the base too far.

Corvallis veteran Max Beatty, who underwent cancer surgery in the offseason that forced him to miss his junior year at Pacific Lutheran, made his 2012 pitching debut and threw a scoreless seventh inning.

Wenatchee starter Derek Callahan had eight strikeouts in six innings and reliever Tyler Kane went the rest of the way for the save. They gave up just three hits and combined for 11 strikeouts.

The Knights had won 13 consecutive regular-season and playoff series over the past two seasons before this weekend.

A.J. Burke (1-0, 0.00) is the projected starter for the Knights in todays 7 p.m. series finale; Wenatchees is undetermined. Corvallis plays at Cowlitz on Monday and Tuesday nights, and then opens a three-game home series with Walla Walla on Wednesday night.
