Rondeau knocks in pair but Knights fall 8-5 to Bend.

Corvallis outfielder Henry Rondeau (pictured) singled twice and drove in two runs on Saturday night in an 8-5 loss to the host Elks at Vince Genna Stadium.

A 10-day signee from Linn-Benton Community College who graduated from Corvallis High School, Rondeau had RBI singles in the seventh and eighth innings. His second RBI drew the Knights within 6-5 but they could get no closer.

The Elks (1-1 WCL) scored five runs in the first two innings and withstood six errors in evening the season-opening series with the Knights (2-1 all, 1-1 WCL). Corvallis won Friday night's league opener, 3-0.

Rondeau was the lone Knight with more than one hit. Jes Staples (Bellarmine) and Trevin Stephens (LBCC) also had RBIs for the Knights.

The series concludes at 1:05 p.m. on Sunday. Lefty Cole Doherty (Portland) is the Knights' scheduled starter.

Corvallis begins the home portion of its WCL schedule against Bellingham at 6:40 p.m. Tuesday in a rematch of the 2014 WCL Championship Series. The first 250 fans get a pouch of Big League Chew and pack of Knights' trading cards compliments of Rob Nelson at Big League Chew.
