Knights drop another walk-off heartbreaker, 3-2

First baseman Nick Torres of Cal Poly (pictured) doubled twice, drove in a run and scored but Kelowna scored twice in the last of the ninth to win.

The Falcons (15-10) bunched three singles and an error off reliever Taylor Starr to hand the Knights (18-11 WCL, 19-11 overall) their second straight walk-off loss and their fifth consecutive loss overall. They fell 6-5 in 10 innings at Bellingham on Thursday.

Corvallis positioned itself to end its tailspin by taking a 2-1 lead in the top of the ninth on a single by Austin Barr and an RBI double by Torres, his second two-bagger of the night. But Torres was picked off third with one out and Corvallis could not add to its lead.

In the last of the ninth, an infield hit and an error put Falcons at first and second with no outs. Each moved up on a sacrifice, and Cameron Alvarado and Jace Conrad hit back-to-back singles to drive home the tying and winning runs.

Torres had two doubles and scored the Knights first run to lead the offense. He was the only Knight with more than one hit. Matt Nylen's infield hit in the second drove in the Knights' other run.

The series concludes on Saturday with a 5 p.m. doubleheader. UC Riverside lefty Dylan Stuart (1-0, 3.00) and Pacific University righty Rob Dittrick (3-0, 1.24) are expected to start for the Knights.

The Knights return to Corvallis on Sunday and begin a three-game home series against Wenatchee at 6:40 p.m. Monday.

In other Knights news, no broken bones were discovered in x-rays on infielder Nate Roberts' swollen right hand, injured in a collision at Bellingham on Wednesday. He is still expected to be sidelined for 7-10 days.
