Spokane routs Knights 14-0. Vitus stuffs Corvallis for second time in less than a week.

Southpaw Chris Brookey (pictured) of UNC-Asheville induced two ground ball doubleplays in relief. That was the Knights' highlight in a game that was decided in the second inning as Spokane scored 7 runs knocking a wild David Stilley of Washington State out of the box.

RiverHawks' right-hander Chris Vitus of Mt. Hood CC stuffed the Knights for a second time in less than a week as the freshman from Eugene, Oregon allowed no runs and struck out 6 over 6 innings to earn the win. Vitus allowed only a single to center by sophomore third baseman Doug Cherry of University of Washington.

Over two starts and 12 innings pitched, Vitus has held Corvallis to three hits and one run and struck out 13 Knights.

Vitus was selected in the 48th round of the 2008 MLB draft by the Los Angeles Angels.

Corvallis' string of 5 consecutive quality starts was broken as Stilley's second-inning nightmare started with lead-off single by Tom Lagried of Washington State who went 4 for 4 on the game. After a strikeout, Stilley's unraveling started with a hits batsman followed by a single to load the bases. Stilley then induced Connor Moore of Spokane to tap back to the mound, but the lefty threw wildy to home allowing two runs to score and Moore to reach second safely.

From there, Stilley would walk the next two batters, walking in one run, and then the WSU frosh uncorked a wild pitch allowing another run to score before being removed after a third straight walk.

Stilley was replaced by Jon Berger of San Diego State. Berger was greeted rudely by back-to-back run scoring singles as Logan Boyd of OSU delivered a two-run single followed by a Lagried RBI single and the Hawks had an early 7-0 lead.

Spokane would add another 7 runs and rout Corvallis 14-0.

Vitus and three relievers combined to shutout Corvallis on one hit.

The 14-run loss was the most lopsided defeat in the Knights' WCCBL era.

The Knights have now lost 3 of their last 4 games and only scored 2 runs in their last three losses.

With the loss, Corvallis drops to 8-5 overall and 7-4 in the WCCBL.

The Knights and RiverHawks face-off Wednesday night in the series rubber game.
