Corvallis takes series, beats Bells 6-2 to record the Knights 30th WCCBL win.

Second baseman Josh Hogan (pictured), a junior-to be at Oregon, delivered the game's winning hit in the bottom of the sixth. Hogan went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and RBI and continued to play stellar defense.

The Knights' pitching staff combined for 13 strikeouts, led by starter Jon Berger of San Diego State who improved his record to 4-0 and struck out 7, as the Knights took its final regular season series by beating Bellingham 6-2 before 649 at Goss Stadium.

"Jon Berger did a great job," Knights' head coach Brooke Knight said. "He really had his change-up going early and he had no-no going until a ball got lost in the sun."

Berger shut down the Bells holding them hitless into the fifth inning.

Corvallis drew first blood scoring a run in the first on a balk with runners at the corners.

The next inning, the Knights picked up a second run on another balk with a runner at third, Tyrell Poggemeyer's second balk. Bellingham would balk four times in the game and commit four errors.

The Bells finally got to Berger in the sixth tying the game on a RBI double by future OSU Beaver catcher Mike Chiarelli of Skagit Valley CC and RBI single by Rhett Fenton of Linfield.

The Knights made Berger a winner by responding with the game's winning run in the bottom of the sixth. Rightfielder Matt Wyckoff of George Fox doubled with one out and then hustled home on Hogan's one-out single to left-center.

Corvallis padded its lead with three runs in the eighth.

"We have been able to get late runs all year," Knight said. "We are able to stay in the game and get runs off the bullpen, which is really great."

Liam Baron of Linn-Benton CC threw a scoreless seventh and Oregon's Geoff Nichols a scoreless eighth. Baron and Nichols recorded one and two strikeouts, respectively.

Taylor Starr of Oregon State wrapped things up striking out the side in the ninth.

"We have been feeling it lately," Berger said. "We kind of got hit around up at Wenatchee so we wanted to come back and get some before the playoffs. We want to come in, get hot and on a roll. We talked about getting these wins before the game, we don�t want to get down before the playoffs."

With the win, Corvallis set a new single-season franchise WCCBL wins record with 30. The Knights now own the league's single-season wins record with 30. The 2005 Wenatchee AppleSox and 2007 Moses Lake Pirates previously held the record with 29. Corvallis is 34-15 overall and 30-11 in the WCCBL.

The team's final regular season game is Sunday, August 10 at Goss Stadium at 5:05 pm.
