Roman Garcia double-trouble for Bellingham.

First baseman Roman Garcia (pictured) doubled twice to lead a 15-hit attack and Corvallis took the series opener on Monday with a 10-5 win over Bellingham.

Garcia (San Diego) scored once and drove in another run as the Knights (14-7 all, 12-7 WCL) improved to 8-2 in their last 10 West Coast League outings. They also stretched their South Division lead over Yakima Valley to 1.5 games, as the Pippins lost at Gresham.

Starter Aaron Pope (Dixie State) allowed two runs over five innings and got the win. He struck out four and evened his record at 2-2. The Knights have scored 14 runs in his last two starts after scoring none in his first two.

"Just work ahead, throw strikes and pitch to contact," Pope said. "Just trusting the guys behind me tonight."

The Knights pounded out three doubles and a triple while building a 7-0 lead through the first four innings. Every starter save one had at least one base hit and seven players had RBIs.

They added on from there and relievers Cameron Richman (Portland), Chris Burkholder (Dartmouth) and Tanner Howell (Dixie State) finished up despite allowing three runs and 11 baserunners over the final four innings.

Center fielder Kyle Nobach (Oregon State) tripled, singled twice, scored once and drove in a run. Left fielder Taylor Travess (Mt. Hood) and catcher Nick Kahle (Washington in 2016-17) had two hits and scored twice; Travess drove in two, Kahle one.

The series resumes at 6:40 p.m. Tuesday. Lefty Hazahel Quijada of UC Riverside (1-0, 0.00) is the projected starter for the Knights, opposed by Oakland righty Joey Palm (0-0, 1.72) for Bellingham. It is a Bi-Mart $2 Tuesday, with $2 prices on peanuts, Cracker Jack and Pepsi products.

The teams conclude the season series at 6:40 p.m. Wednesday. UC Irvine lefty Cameron Bishop (1-0, 0.00) will start for the Knights, opposed by righty Joey Matulovich (1-1, 1.62) of Cal for the Bells. It is Discover Newport Night/Spindrift Wine Wednesday, with specially-priced pours of Spindrift Cellars wine.

Monday's crowd of 1,090 raised the yearly attendance to 13,988 for nine dates. That is 394 fans ahead of last year's record total of 49,656 through a corresponding number of openings.
