Corvallis sweeps Spokane. Knights shutout the RiverHawks 6-0.
July 27, 2007Matt Wyckoff of George Fox went 3 for 4 to lead Corvallis to the win at home before 441 fans.
"For me it was kind of a nice start to getting out of a slump." said Wyckoff. "It was nice to see the team get 10 hits and take a little pressure off our pitching."
"I think we hit the ball well over the series," said Knights' shortstop Josh Hogan. "If we keep hitting the ball I think that we will be in good shape for playoffs. We just need to keep getting hits."
Kevin Castner of Cal Poly SLO, Brett Brunner of PLU and Greg Peavey of Hudson's Bay High School combined to shutout the Spokane RiverHawks on 5 hits. Castner struckout 8 batters over 4 innings. Brunner pitched one scoreless inning and picked up the win while Peavey tossed 4 scoreless innings while striking out 5 to earn the save.
The Knights collected 10 hits as a team and scored in four consecutive innings to close the game.
Corvallis stroked a season high four doubles and also executed five sacrifice bunts.
With the win, Corvallis improves to 31-15 overall and 23-13 in league. Both Kitsap and Bend both won Saturday night keeping the Knights a 1/2 game behind the BlueJackets and 2 1/2 games ahead of Bend.
