Knights clinch playoff spot before 1,206 fans at Goss.

First baseman Jim Murphy (pictured) of Washington State hit a game-winning two-run homer to lead Corvallis to a 5-2 victory over Kitsap. With the win, the Knights moved two games ahead of Kitsap and clinched a post-season berth. Kelowna beat Bend 8-1 to assure Corvallis a spot in the West Divisional Series.

Goss Stadium was electric Wednesday night as the Knights struck early as Murphy homered in the first-inning to put Corvallis up 2-0. Kitsap scored in the sixth to close the gap, but Corvallis answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to go up 4-1.

Southpaw Blake Keitzman of Oregon State was masterful tossing six innings to earn the win. Keitzman allowed only 4 hits while walking two and striking out 7. The soph-to be from Roseburg, Oregon improved his overall record to 4-0 and lowered his ERA to 1.27.

Oregon State frosh-to be Greg Peavey finished out the BlueJackets to earn his third save. Peavey tossed three innings and gave up one run while striking out 3.

Second baseman Brett Casey of OSU tripled in the 7th and scored on Jake Roy's safety squeeze bunt.

"I've been doing well on the left side," said Brett Casey. "I've been getting fastballs and not chasing pitches so much, so that has helped."

Corvallis goes for the sweep on Thursday night at Goss.

In the sixth, centerfielder Braden Wells of OSU made the play of the game robbing Joey Lind of UW of extra bases on a diving catch.

"I saw the ball in the air and I just took off running," said Wells. "Jake (Roy) gave me the ok to dive and I got it. It was nice to hear the crowd get loud and excited."

"It was nice to pick up that win," commented Braden.

Thursday night is Fan Appreciation Night presented by the Corvallis Country Club. Make plans to attend the Knights final regular season home game. If Corvallis beats Kitsap on Thursday evening, the Knights will clinch a WCCBL Western Division Championship.
