Knights sweep East leading Pirates at Moses Lake. Corvallis takes series finale 1-0.

Mike Koons (pictured) of San Diego State took a no-hitter into the ninth and Kyle Cruikshank struckout two Pirates with the tying run on third and winning run on second to give the Knights a 1-0 win and series sweep. Koons gave up a lead-off single in the ninth and was removed for Cruikshank. Mike was masterful allowing just one hit while walking one and striking out 6. Cruikshank retired the first batter he faced before giving up a single that put Pirates on first and third. After a stolen base advanced the winning run to second, Kyle buckled down and struckout the final two batters for his second save. Koons earned his first win of the young season.

With the victory, the Knights improve to 12-3 overall and 8-1 in the WCCBL. Corvallis leads Bend (5-4) and Kitsap (5-4) by three games in the West. Moses Lake drops to 6-3 in league, but retains first place in the East.

Corvallis scored its lone run in the top of the ninth. With two out, Jake Roy of Dakota Weslayan was hit by a pitch. Pinch-hitter Josh Hogan of Mt. Hood CC followed with a single advancing Roy to third. Then catcher Rocky Gale delivered a clutch game-winning RBI single. Outfielder Matt Wyckoff collected two hits to raise his league batting average to .424 (2nd best in the WCCBL). The Knights were stifled by right-hander Dale Reneau for eight innings, but scratched a run out on reliever Ben Graham. Reneau, a junior at Oral Roberts, was a second-team All-WCCBL selection last season.

Corvallis now heads to Wenatchee to face the two-time WCCBL champion AppleSox on Monday. Game time is 7 pm. 990 AM The Legend will broadcast this series and the Spokane series.

Congratulations to the Oregon State Beavers for winning back-to-back National Championships. How sweet it is! Erik Ammon, Blake Keitzman, Braden Wells and Dave Wong will be joining the team shortly.
