Wenatchee edges Knights 5-4 in series opener.

Kevin Kline (pictured) singled twice and had the only RBI for Corvallis as Wenatchee edged the Knights 5-4 on Monday in the series opener.

The Knights (10-7 all, 9-7 WCL) had just five hits and dropped their second game in a row. Kline and catcher Logan Ice each had two singles and were the only Knights with more than one hit.

Corvallis scored its lone earned run in the third when Michael Lucarelli walked, moved to second on a single by Marc Gallegos and scored on Kline's single. It was his 20th RBI, tops in the WCL.

The Knights also scored three times on two-out errors in the sixth to take a brief 4-3 lead before Wenatchee rallied.

The AppleSox touched Knights' starter Harrison McGhee for three runs and 10 hits in five innings. He left with a 4-3 advantage, but reliever Merrick Patito gave up the tying and go-ahead runs in the home sixth to give Wenatchee a 5-4 lead it would not relinquish.

Reliever Nathan Hadley retired 10 straight Knights in 3.1 scoreless innings for Wenatchee and got the win. Trenton Brooks went the ninth for the save. The Knights had the tying run at second with one out but Brooks struck out the next two hitters to end the game.

The series resumes at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday. Angel Landazuri (0-0, 3.85) of UC Riverside is the scheduled starter for the Knights, opposed by Brandon Bailey (0-0, 0.00) of Gonzaga in a matchup of freshmen right-handers.

The next home game for Corvallis is 6:40 p.m. Thursday against the Mid-Valley Rockets American Legion team. Wenatchee then visits Corvallis on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
