August 3, 2015UC Riverside slugger Michael Farris (pictured) blasted a two-run homer to lead the Corvallis onslaught.
Farris went 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs.
The Knights took advantage of 7 Walla Walla errors and broke open the game in the 8th with a three-run inning that featured doubles from Cole Kreuter of UC Irvine and future OSU Beaver Nick Madrigal, and two-out RBI singles by future L-C State Warrior Emilio Alcantar and Oregon State second baseman Christian Donahue.
Madrigal recorded his fourth consecutive multiple hit game with two knocks.
Corvallis starting pitcher Alex Nesbitt of University of Washington tossed five solid innings to earn the win, as the senior-to-be right-hander allowed two runs and two hits while walking three and striking out 6.
Knights' reliever Caleb Henry of Corban hurled three innings and UC Irvine lefty Cameron Bishop finished the game.
With the victory, the Knights improved their WCL record to 28-20 and overall mark to 34-20.
The Victoria HarbourCats moved ahead of Yakima Valley in the West Coast League wild card race by beating the Pippins tonight 11-5 at Royal Athletic Park in British Columbia, Canada. The HarbourCats (26-22) are now two games behind the Knights with Yakima (26-23) trailing Corvallis 2.5 games as the wild card chase has narrowed to three teams.
Victoria and Corvallis have six games remaining while the Pippins close with two more games at Victoria and three home games vs. Wenatchee.
The Knights sweep is its fifth of the year and second on the road. Corvallis swept Wenatchee at Paul Thomas Sr. Field earlier in the summer and recorded home sweeps vs. Victoria, Kitsap and Klamath Falls.
Corvallis heads to East Division-leading Kelowna (30-17) on Tuesday to start a three-game series at Elks Stadium. The Falcons are coached by former Knights' player and coach Billy Clontz and ex-Knights' pitcher/first baseman/outfielder Dylan Jones. Clontz is Kelowna's skipper and Jones the Falcons' pitching coach.
