Taylor's late RBI gives Knights 1-0 win, series sweep.

Catcher Zak Taylor doubled in the winning run with two outs in the top of the ninth inning to give Corvallis a 1-0 victory over Kitsap on Sunday in the finale of their WCL series.

A sophomore-to-be at Oregon State, Taylor's hit powered the Knights (36-19 overall, 29-19 WCL, 11-10 second half) to a series- and season-sweep of the BlueJackets in what may have been the final game between the teams, both charter members of the WCL. The Kitsap franchise is likely to be re-located to Port Angeles for 2017.

Kyle Nobach (OSU) led off the ninth with a single, and then was sacrificed to second. After a ground out, Taylor doubled on the first pitch he saw and Nobach scored easily. Closer Chase Kaplan (Kansas in 2017) then retired Kitsap in order for his eighth save.

The Knights extended their winning streak to five games in row, matching their longest such streak of the summer. They also won five straight from June 17-22.

Corvallis starter Ryley Widell (Central Arizona) struck out six and allowed two hits over six innings. Relievers Cameron Richman (Portland), Trenton Dupre (Washington State) and Kaplan each tacked on a scoreless frame to combine on a shutout.

Third baseman Greg Saenz (Grand Canyon) had two hits for the second game in a row for the Knights. They were held to one hit through the first seven innings, but mustered two each in the eighth and ninth innings.

The Knights are idle on Monday. They open their final home series of the regular season on Tuesday when the new Gresham GreyWolves make their initial appearance at Goss Stadium.
