Bishop, Choate knock off Medford in series opener.

Corvallis starter Chris Bishop (pictured) struck out seven, spaced eight hits and allowed two runs through six innings to key a 6-5 win over the Rogues.

A senior-to-be at Pacific Lutheran, Bishop evened his record at 1-1 with a quality start on Monday night before a Goss Stadium crowd of 1,041. He aided his own cause by picking two Rogues off first base.

Medford rallied with three runs in the ninth before closer Brandon Choate of Washington got the final three outs for his fourth save. He has saved each of the Knights' last three wins.

Corvallis (14-10 all, 12-10 WCL) thus gained ground in the South Division pennant race as they trimmed the first-place Rogues' (12-7) lead to 1.5 games with the come-from-behind victory. The Knights trailed 2-0 early before rallying for all six of their runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.

Joe Duffin of Cypress College doubled, singled, scored twice and had an RBI; Alec Smith of Cal Poly singled twice, scored and drove in a run, and Jackson Soto singled twice and drove in a run for the Knights. Kevin Kline of Dixie State returned to action after missing time with the flu and singled, scored twice and drove in a run.

The Knights scored three times in the fifth to erase a 3-2 lead, and then added on with one in the sixth and two in the seventh. Medford rallied with three runs in the ninth but Choate stranded the tying run at first base.

The series resumes at 6:40 p.m. Tuesday. Righty Angel Landazuri (1-0, 3.72) of UC Riverside is the projected starter for the Knights, opposed by lefty Christian Cox (0-1, 3.86) of Nebraska.

Monday's crowd of 1,041 upped the 2014 attendance to 18,039 in 15 openings, 1,115 behind 2013 through a corresponding number of home dates. The Knights drew a franchise-record 43,557 fans in 2013.
