Quijada handcuffs Gresham, Knights even up series.

UC Riverside lefty Hazahel Quijada (pictured) struck out six in five scoreless innings and Corvallis downed Gresham 7-3 to even the series at a game each.

Quijada (2-0) allowed two hits and extended his streak of scoreless innings to 11 in a row over his last three starts. He lowered his ERA to 0.71 from 0.88; he has allowed just two earned runs in 25.1 innings.

Nick Kahle (Washington in 2017) hit his first homer of the summer, the second in two games for Corvallis. Andy Atwood (Oregon State) and Matt Kelly (Portland) each singled twice and drove in two runs for the Knights (30-15 overall, 23-15 WCL, 5-6 second half).

Corvallis scored twice in the second, on a bases-loaded walk to Taylor Travess (Mt. Hood) and an RBI single by Atwood. Kahle's homer leading off the sixth made it 3-0 and Kelly added a two-out RBI single for a 4-0 advantage.

Gresham drew within 5-3 in the seventh but the Knights got two big insurance runs in the eighth on a wild pitch and on Kelly's squeeze-bunt single.

Pitcher Louis Crow, a San Diego signee who was selected by Milwaukee in the 16th round of the recent MLB draft, turned in a scoreless inning of relief in his 2016 debut. Trenton Dupre (Washington State) and Craig Colen (Cal Poly) closed out the game with a scoreless inning apiece.

The series concludes at 7:05 p.m. Friday. Lefty Jacob Fricke (3-0, 2.14) of Western Oregon will start for the Knights; Andrew Heideman (3-1, 4.86) of Concordia goes for the GreyWolves.

The Knights' next home game is set for 6:40 p.m. Saturday against Victoria, the North Divisions first-half champion. It is Cap Night, presented by the Mario Pastega House.
