AppleSox blank Knights 3-0, clinch series win.

Pitcher Chris Haddeland (pictured) was the tough-luck loser as the Corvallis Knights fell 3-0 at Wenatchee on Tuesday night.

A senior-to-be at Linfield, Haddeland allowed six hits and one unearned run in 6.2 innings, with three strikeouts, but was outdueled by three AppleSox hurlers. An infield error in the second inning led to the only run against him; Wenatchee added two insurance runs in the eighth.

It was the third loss in a row for the Knights (10-8 all, 9-8 WCL), who had won four consecutive series before this road trip. They trail first-place Medford by two games in the South Division pennant race.

Corvallis had the bases loaded with one out in the second inning but a 4-6-3 double play ended that threat. They also had runners at second and third with one out, and the bases loaded with two outs, in the sixth but could not score. Another double play ended a two-on threat in the seventh.

Grant Melker had two singles and Kevin Kline added a double, their only extra-base hit. They hit into three double plays and left nine runners on base.

The series concludes at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday. Angel Landazuri (0-0, 3.85) of UC Riverside is the scheduled starter for the Knights, opposed by UCLA signee Griffin Canning (1-0, 1.28) for Wenatchee.

The next home game for Corvallis is 6:40 p.m. Thursday against the Mid-Valley Rockets American Legion team. Wenatchee then visits Corvallis on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
