Knights drop Father's Day exhibition game vs. Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 9-2.
June 15, 2008Josh Hogan (pictured) collected 2 of the team's 4 hits versus the SF Giants short-season A affiliate. The Volcanoes sent their fans home happy on Father's Day as Salem-Keizer won its home opener 9-2 before a crowd of 3,136.
The Knights' red hot offense was cooled off by Volcanoes' pitching. Josh Hogan, a junior-to be at Oregon, doubled and singled and first baseman Dean Green of Oklahoma State ripped a RBI single scoring Hogan in the sixth to plate the Knights final run of the evening.
Michael Cusick and Greg Bobnick of Western Oregon made their season debuts vs. the Volcanoes. Cusick, a native of Salem, started the game and took the loss. The sophomore returnee tossed 2 2/3 innings and gave up 7 hits and 4 runs (3 earned) while walking 2 and striking out 3. Bobnick, a junior southpaw at WOU, pitched 1 2/3 innings allowing 2 hits and 2 runs (1 earned) while walking 2 and striking out 1. Junior-to be at Oregon Geoff Nichols also made his 2008 debut pitching 1 2/3 innings. The right-hander from Portland gave up 3 hits and 3 runs (2 earned) while walking 2 and striking out 1.
Frosh David Stilley of Washington State pitched the final two innings. The southpaw shined vs. the Giants' short-season club allowing only one hit while striking out 3.
The Knights get back to league play this Tuesday as Corvallis takes on Spokane at 6:35 pm at Goss Stadium. Tuesday's game is the Knights home opener.
Junior right-hander Jon Berger of San Diego State is slated to start.
