Knights toppled by GreyWolves, 5-3, in series finale.
July 22, 2016Future Cal Poly infielder Scott Ogrin (pictured) drove in two runs but Corvallis lost 5-3 at Gresham on Friday in the rubber game of its West Coast League series.
Ogrin singled home the Knights' first run in the third and knocked in another run in the sixth to draw them within 3-2. Cameron Bishop (UC Irvine) then drove in the tying run on a safety squeeze.
However, the GreyWolves scored twice off reliever Tanner Howell in the sixth to break the tie. The go-ahead run scored on a bases-loaded walk, the fifth of the series issued by Corvallis pitchers.
Corvallis had the tying or go-ahead runs on base in each of the final three innings but stranded five baserunners in that span.
Roman Garcia (San Diego) and Zak Taylor (Oregon State) also had two hits for the Knights (30-16 overall, 23-16 WCL, 5-7 second half). Jacob Fricke (Western Oregon) allowed three runs in five innings in his first start of the summer; he had five strikeouts and got a no-decision.
The Knights open a three-game series with Victoria, the North Divisions first-half champion, at 6:40 p.m. Saturday. Future Northern Colorado righty Branden Cutsforth (1-1. 3.80) is their scheduled starter.
