Corvallis takes home series opener 7-3 vs. Kelowna.

Nick Akins (pictured) of Riverside CC homered in the Knights 7-3 win vs. the Kelowna Falcons. Staff ace and 2007 WCCBL All-Star selection Matt Way picked up his fourth win vs. no defeats Tuesday night. Way tossed 7 innings and allowed 3 runs. Kevin Castner of Cal Poly SLO pitched a scoreless eighth and struckout two and Brad Kidd of BYU blanked the Falcons in the ninth to close the game.

"I was mostly throwing changeups and fastballs tonight," starting pitcher Matt Way said. "I didn't feel great, but I battled through it and got the job done."

Both catcher Erik Ammon of OSU and first baseman Jim Murphy of Washington State collected 2 RBI without a hit. Nick Akins hit a solo homer in the 4th to get the offense going and cut the Knights deficit to 2-1. Corvallis would score 3 in the fifth to take a 4-2 lead. Frosh third baseman Clayton Shaw of University of Portland went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored.

The WCCBL announced its All-Star teams today. Way, pitchers JR Murphy and Mike Koons of San Diego State, Jim Murphy and outfielder Matt Wyckoff of George Fox were selected to the 2007 West All-Star team.

With the Knights victory, Corvallis improves to 21-10 overall and 14-8 in league. Bend beat Spokane at Patterson Baseball Complex this evening to stay tied with the Knights in the West.

The temperature registered 105 degrees at game time. Tuesday's attendance was a season low 194 as the heat kept fans inside on an evening that turned out to be very pleasant outdoors.

High school phenom and Oregon State frosh-to be Greg Peavey of Hudson's Bay High School is scheduled to start Wednesday night vs. the Falcons.

Wednesday, July 11 is Baseball Giveaway Night presented by BI-MART. First 500 fans get a free baseball.

Game two of the series will be broadcasted on 990 AM The Legend. Mike Parker, the voice of the Beavers and Knights, calls all the action.
