Gems even series with 7-4 victory over Knights before crowd of 913.
June 8, 2011Outfielder Kramer Scott (pictured) of Portland tripled and singled to lead the Knights offense.
Scott also had an RBI, but it wasnt enough as the Knights (2-3) dropped a 7-4 decision to the Klamath Falls Gems before a season-high crowd of 913 at Goss Stadium.
The Gems scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back in ending a two-game losing streak in the finale of the abbreviated series, the first between the Knights and the WCLs newest expansion team.
Brian Emberys two-run, two-out single after an error extended the first inning gave the Gems (3-2) a 2-0 lead. Kinoah Crowell added an RBI single; it was the first of his four hits, as he subsequently added a double, two singles, two runs and a stolen base.
Gems starter Alex Levin lasted just three batters before being relieved by Matt Klein. An RBI single and a passed ball cut the lead to 3-2 but he shut the Knights out over the next three innings and earned his first victory of the summer.
Sean Myrom had the Knights other RBI on a sacrifice fly; he also doubled and singled.
Southridge High graduate Jace Fry, an Oregon State signee who was drafted in the ninth round on Tuesday by Oakland, made his Knights debut in relief of starter and loser Matt Pechmann. He allowed one run in 2.1 innings and had two strikeouts.
Thursdays scheduled game with the Gems was cancelled several weeks ago to avoid a conflict with a potential NCAA Super Regional at Goss Stadium. It was rescheduled as part of a July 28 doubleheader.
The Knights resume WCL action on Friday, when they open a three-game series at Bend with a 7 p.m. game with the Elks at Vince Genna Stadium. Their next home game is June 16 against the Portland Bucks of WCL Portland.
