Knights rally late for 4-2 victory over HarbourCats.

Righty Jacob Schroeder (pictured) gave the Knights another stellar pitching performance and Corvallis rallied to defeat Victoria 4-2 on Sunday.

A rising sophomore at Washington State, Schroeder (2-1) allowed seven hits over 8.2 innings, with six strikeouts and one walk. It was the second straight brilliant starting effort by Knights' pitchers; Casey Bloomquist went 8.2 innings on Saturday night as Corvallis won the series oipener, 5-1.

On Sunday, the Knights (30-15 all, 26-15 WCL) scored three times in the top of the ninth off closer Ryan Keller to earn their sixth consecutive victory. They also won the series and stayed in first place in the South Division of the West Coast League.

Center fielder Blake Drake singled off Keller to start the ninth. He was sacrificed to second, and tied the game 2-2 on Cody Lenahan's double.

Kevin Kline followed with another double to knock in Lenahan with the go-ahead run. Kline then scored an insurance run with two outs on a dropped fly ball.

The HarbourCats threatened in the ninth and had runners on the corners with one out. Schroeder fanned David Schuknecht for the second out, and was then replaced by closer Brandon Choate.

Choate walked pinch-hitter Alex Real, Victoria's leading hitter (.371) to load the bases. But he then retired pinch-hitter Austin Russell on a grounder to Mike Lucarelli at short to end the game for his third save.

Victoria took a 1-0 lead in the first. The Knights tied the game briefly in the third on Lucarelli's double and Drake's single, but Victoria broke the tie in the home half and did not relinquish the lead until the ninth.

Victoria starter Bryan Conant (5-1) allowed four hits and had nine strikeouts in eight innings before being lifted for Keller after 105 pitches. The Knights also struck out 13 times on Saturday night and have fanned 22 times in the series so far.

Drake and Lenahan had two hits each for the Knights. Second baseman Alex DeGoti drove in both of Victoria's runs with RBI singles in the first and third innings, and had four hits overall.

The series concludes at 7 p.m. Monday. Lefty Andrew Naderer (2-1, 1.35) is the projected starter for Corvallis, opposed by righty Tyler Rowe, making his WCL debut.

The Knights then travel to Kelowna, B.C., for a Tuesday-Thursday series. Their next home game is a Saturday, Aug. 3, against Kelowna.
