Knights beat Sox 7-1. JR Murphy throws 7 shutout innings.
June 9, 2007Corvallis collected 13 hits as the Knights split its two-game set with Yuba-Sutter by taking the series finale 7-1. Corvallis right-hander JR Murphy of San Diego State took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and shutout the Sox for 7 innings. Murphy only allowed 2 hits and struckout 5. JR earned the win and Brad Kidd of BYU finished the game. Kidd stuckout 4 over two innings.
The offense pounded out 13 hits. Leftfielder Jake Roy of Dakota Wesleyan went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI and blasted a two-run homer in the eighth. Rocky Gale went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI. Gale's two-run single in the 7th put the Knights up 4-1. Designated hitter Nick Akins of Riverside C.C. put the Knights up 1-0 with a RBI double in the sixth.
The Knights defense continued to shine going errorless and making several outstanding plays in the field. Corvallis travels to Arcata Sunday to play the Humboldt Crabs. The Knights and Crabs open a three-game series Sunday evening at 5:30 pm. Catch the entire series on KTHH 990 AM.
