Six errors doom Corvallis in 4-3 loss at Bellingham.
July 15, 2013Kevin Kline (pictured) doubled, homered and drove in two runs but Bellingham parlayed six Corvallis errors into four unearned runs and a 4-3 victory on Monday.
The setback ended ended the Knights� (23-14, 20-14 WCL) six-game West Coast League winning streak. They had eight wins in a row overall.
The Bells (18-15) broke a 3-3 tie in the last of the eighth after the Knights had tied the game in the top half on Kline's solo homer.
Alex Calbick opened the eighth win a base hit to right field and was safe at second when Corvallis shortstop Chris Rabago dropped a relay throw that would have easily retired Calbick. Devon Barker balked him to third and Calbick scored the winning run on a fielder's choice off reliever Dylan Hecht.
Cody Lenahan had three hits, Blake Drake and Mike Lucarelli two apiece for Corvallis, who fell a full game behind Bend in the South Division race.
Corvallis scored in the first on singles by Drake and Lenahan and Kline's RBI double. Bellingham used an error and three straight singles to tie the game in the second.
Bellingham scored another unearned run to take a 2-1 lead in the third. An RBI groundout by Dane Lund tied it again in the fifth but the Bells surged back ahead 3-2 with their second unearned run in the bottom half.
Corvallis tied it again in the eighth on Kline's homer but Bellingham responded again with the game-winning unearned run in the bottom half.
Knights' starter Jason Schroeder allowed six hits and three unearned runs in 6.1 innings, with two strikeouts. Barker was the loser.
Corvallis had ample scoring chances early but failed to capitalize and stranded five runners in the first five innings. The six errors were a season high.
The series resumes at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday; lefty Elliot Surrey (2-1, 1.28) is the projected starter for the Knights. It concludes on Wednesday night and the Knights host the Mid-Valley Rockets American Legion team on Thursday night.
