Knights drop heartbreaker in Bellingham, 6-5.

A two-run, two-strike, two-out double by outfielder Alex Michaels (pictured) of Cal Poly tied the game in the top of the ninth but the Bells scored in the 10th to hand the Knights their fourth loss in a row.

In the 10th, Nate Causeys fourth hit of the game drove in Jarel Lewis with the decisive run. The Bells (18-9 WCL) swept the three-game series at Joe Martin Field and also won the season series, 4-2.

Causey hit a 2-2 pitch off reliever Greg Mahle to center field to score Lewis from second base. Lewis reached on a fielder's choice and advanced to scoring position on a wild pitch.

It was the third time this summer the teams ended their game with a walk-off hit. Corvallis took two games from the Bells in that fashion on June 26 and June 28 at Goss Stadium.

Corvallis trailed 5-1 heading into the seventh but eventually forced extra innings on Michael's clutch hit. The Knights (18-10 WCL, 19-10 overall) have now lost four games in a row for the first time since an identical period (July 2-5) in 2011.

In the ninth, Connor Hofmann singled and Caleb Whalen walked to start the inning. A one-out fielder's choice moved them to third and second and they scored on Michaels' double.

Nate Blackham had a double and three singles, Mahle doubled and singled twice and Michaels, Alex Foulon, and Hofmann had two hits apiece for the Knights. Michaels drove in three runs, Mahle two.

The Knights open a three-game series at Kelowna (14-10 WCL) at 6:35 p.m. on Friday. Righty Trevor Frank (0-0, 0.00) of UC Riverside is their projected starter; Kelowna has not announced its rotation.

The teams play a 5 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday. UC Riverside lefty Dylan Stuart (1-0, 3.00) and Pacific University righty Rob Dittrick (3-0, 1.24) are expected to start for the Knights. The twin bill concludes a stretch of 13 games in 12 days.

The Knights return to Corvallis on Sunday and begin a three-game home series against Wenatchee at 6:40 p.m. on a SNAP Fitness Miser Monday.
